Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese technique to reduce stress and promote healing within the body. It is administered with light touch (or no touch) by the practitioners hands on the client. A warm, soothing energy flows from the practitioners hands to the client which reduces tension, relieves stress and creates and in turn, allows the body to begin healing. Reiki is a holistic approach to healing. It relieves emotional and physical stress within the whole body. Reiki is not a replacement for traditional medicine, but a complementary health approach. Always consult your doctor for medical health problems.

What can I expect in a reiki session?

I will start the session off by explaining a little bit about reiki and asking you if there is any particular issue that you are needing help with. Then you simply lie down on the reiki table and I will walk you through a simple breathing exercise to help you relax. I then begin placing my hands on and sometimes above your body. I usually start at the head and work my way down to the feet.  At the end of the session, I gently bring you back to presence (most clients are very very relaxed and dreamy by the end of the session). After you are alert, we will discuss the session and I will answer any questions you might have.

What can reiki help with?

Since reiki works on all levels, a better question would be, what can't reiki help with? Reiki helps relieve various minor and major ailments. Reiki helps relieve stress, which causes many illnesses. People use Reiki to relax and strengthen their wellbeing; reduce pain, anxiety, and fatigue; help manage symptoms; reduce side effects of medications; and support recovery after injuries or surgery.

Can anyone be treated with reiki?

Certainly! Men, women and children (and animals!) of all ages, health levels and abilities can receive benefits from reiki.

What do I need to do to prepare for a reiki session?

Arrive about 10-15 minutes early so you can fill out a little paperwork and we can discuss your treatment. Come with comfortable clothes (Reiki is done fully clothed).

How will I feel afterwards? Is there aftercare?

Most of my clients tell me that they feel wonderful and very relaxed, almost like they had a massage! Reiki energy continues to work through the body for a couple days after treatment. Similar to a massage, reiki is a detoxifying treatment. I recommend to drink plenty of water for the next couple days to continue the detox process.

How often do people need reiki treatments?

Every client and every situation is different. I always say, if time and money wasn't an issue, every man, woman and child should get massages and reiki treatments once a week! But time and money doesn't always allow for that, so I recommend coming back for reiki treatments once per month or as needed. If you have an issue you need to really work on, I recommend receiving reiki more often. For example,if a client has a serious medical issue, 2 times per week for a few weeks (or longer) might be needed. Of course, I always make sure clients with medical problems are also being seen by a medical doctor.

Is Reiki a Religion?

No, reiki isn't a religion. But it can be a very spiritual experience. I believe that reiki strengthens ones connection to their religion and spirituality. I encourage my clients to bring their faith to the session.

Can Christians Receive Reiki Treatments?

Of course! Reiki is all about love and healing. In fact, there are many nuns, priests and ministers who practice reiki! If you have questions or concerns about christians and reiki, there is a great website that discusses Christianity and Reiki - visit
